(Senior) Scientist, Electromagnetics, Time and Dimension Division (NMC)

A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES

We are seeking a Senior Scientist/Scientist to join our optical clock development team. This position focuses on the research, design, and development of next-generation optical atomic clocks, with an emphasis on chip-based optical clocks and stabilized laser systems.

The successful applicant will join our Research & Innovation Department and contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at the redefinition and realization of the SI Second. The role will also support the development and maintenance of national time and frequency standards, strengthen Singapore's capabilities in precision timekeeping and timing resilience, and contribute to international collaborations in optical frequency metrology. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building chip-based optical clocks, focusing on on-chip stabilized laser systems.
  • Developing stabilized laser systems for time resilience and precision metrology applications.
  • Conducting hands-on experiments involving optical cavity building, laser frequency stabilization including PDH locking, and interferometric measurements.
  • Exploring and integrating advancements in photonics circuits, nonlinear conversion, and quantum sources into optical clock systems, quantum networking, and related quantum metrology work.
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related Photonics field.
  • Hands-on experimental experience in optics and photonics, specifically in building optical cavities, interferometric setups, and laser stabilization systems.
  • Experience with integrated photonics circuits and nonlinear optical conversion is preferred.
  • Familiarity with quantum optical sources including single photon sources and SPDC, as well as quantum networking concepts, is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex experimental setups.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn and contribute to a dynamic research environment.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
