Network Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Network Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure to support the implementation and delivery of data center white space and network infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate should have practical experience working in data center environments, with strong hands-on knowledge of structured cabling, fiber and copper connectivity, rack-and-stack, equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting.

This role will work closely with project managers, customers, vendors, and contractors to ensure data center infrastructure is installed, tested, documented, and delivered according to project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and delivery of data center white space and network infrastructure projects.
  • Perform installation, patching, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and copper structured cabling.
  • Support Cat6/Cat6A, single-mode fiber (SMF), and multi-mode fiber (MMF) cabling infrastructure.
  • Perform rack-and-stack activities for switches, routers, servers, patch panels, and other IT/network equipment.
  • Perform fiber and copper patching between racks, cabinets, patch panels, and network equipment.
  • Ensure proper cable routing, dressing, labeling, and cable management according to project and data center standards.
  • Conduct cable testing and assist with certification using tools such as Fluke testers, OTDR, optical power meters, or equivalent equipment.
  • Install, replace, and troubleshoot network equipment and related components, including switches, SFPs/QSFPs, patch panels, and network connectivity.
  • Verify installations against rack elevations, cable schedules, port mappings, network diagrams, and project drawings.
  • Conduct site surveys and assist with identifying infrastructure and connectivity requirements.
  • Support project activities including equipment deployment, migration, cutover, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity and cabling issues onsite.
  • Coordinate with project managers, customers, vendors, contractors, and other technical teams during project implementation.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including cable schedules, port mappings, test results, rack elevations, and as-built records.
  • Ensure all onsite activities comply with customer requirements, project specifications, data center procedures, and safety standards.
  • Provide onsite support during maintenance windows or after normal working hours when required.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in data center infrastructure, network deployment, or structured cabling projects.
  • Hands-on data center structured cabling experience is required.
  • Strong practical knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling, including patching, termination, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Cat6/Cat6A, SMF and MMF.
  • Experience working with data center racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable trays, and cable management systems.
  • Hands-on experience in rack-and-stack and network/IT equipment installation.
  • Ability to understand rack elevations, cable schedules, port mappings, network diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with network equipment including switches, routers, SFP/QSFP transceivers, and related hardware.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing, and network connectivity.
  • Able to independently troubleshoot common physical network and cabling issues.
  • Comfortable working in an active data center environment.
  • Willing to travel to customer/project sites and support after-hours activities when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in data center white space fit-out, expansion, migration, or deployment projects.
  • Experience using Fluke cable testers, OTDR, optical power meters, or similar testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, or other relevant structured cabling standards.
  • Familiarity with LC and MPO/MTP fiber connectivity.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, BICSI, FOA, or equivalent are an advantage.
  • Previous experience with a system integrator, data center operator, structured cabling contractor, or IT infrastructure provider is preferred.
