Ancourage Academy is looking for a committed and versatile Full-Time Science Teacher to join our teaching team across our Bishan and Woodlands centres.
This is primarily a Science teaching position, with a strong focus on Secondary Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The ideal candidate should be confident teaching Science across multiple levels and disciplines, with the ability to teach English as an additional subject being highly preferred.
Candidates who are particularly strong in two or more Science disciplines and are able to teach another academic subject are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Student Development
Conduct engaging, structured and effective Science lessons for Primary and Secondary students.
Teach subjects and levels including:
Primary Science
Lower Secondary Science
Secondary Physics
Secondary Chemistry
Secondary Biology
Combined Science (Physics/Chemistry)
Combined Science (Physics/Biology)
Combined Science (Chemistry/Biology)
Pure Physics
Pure Chemistry
Pure Biology
Ability to teach at least two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology is highly preferred.
Candidates who can confidently teach all three Science disciplines will be given strong consideration.
Ability to additionally teach Primary and/or Secondary English will be a strong advantage.
Prepare and deliver lessons according to students' individual learning needs and the relevant Singapore syllabus.
Break down complex scientific concepts into clear and understandable explanations.
Develop students' conceptual understanding, application skills and examination techniques.
Guide students in answering structured, open-ended, data-based and calculation-based Science questions effectively.
Develop students' ability to interpret scientific information, experimental data, diagrams and practical scenarios.
Identify students' misconceptions and learning gaps and provide appropriate intervention.
Mark worksheets, assignments, tests and other student work.
Provide clear and constructive feedback to students.
Monitor students' academic progress and identify areas requiring additional support.
Prepare students for school examinations, PSLE and/or secondary national examinations where applicable.
Conduct trial lessons, regular classes, replacement classes and academic programmes when scheduled.
Communicate students' progress and learning needs appropriately to the Academy and parents.
Curriculum Development
The successful candidate will contribute actively to the development and improvement of Ancourage Academy's Science curriculum.
Responsibilities may include:
Developing lesson plans, worksheets, revision materials and teaching resources.
Creating Physics, Chemistry and Biology practice questions and assessment materials.
Developing worked solutions and answer keys with clear explanations.
Reviewing and improving existing curriculum materials.
Ensuring teaching materials remain aligned with current syllabus and examination requirements.
Developing resources for:
Primary Science
Lower Secondary Science
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
Combined Science
Identifying commonly tested concepts, question types and student misconceptions across the Science disciplines.
Developing structured teaching approaches for difficult scientific concepts.
Creating revision packages, topical practices and examination preparation materials.
Developing materials that strengthen students' experimental, analytical and scientific reasoning skills.
Supporting the development of new academic programmes and holiday programmes.
Collaborating with other teachers to maintain consistent academic and teaching standards across classes.
Academic & Centre Support
As part of our full-time in-house team, the teacher may also assist with:
Organising and maintaining teaching and curriculum resources.
Supporting student progress tracking and academic records.
Assisting with academic planning and class coordination where required.
Supporting centre activities, workshops, events and academic programmes.
Providing academic input for student and parent enquiries when required.
Collaborating with teachers and centre staff on student-related matters.
Supporting the onboarding and academic briefing of students where necessary.
Assisting with general centre operations during non-teaching periods.
Carrying out other reasonable duties related to the Academy's academic and operational needs.
Marketing & Educational Content Support
The role may also involve supporting Ancourage Academy's educational content and marketing initiatives.
Responsibilities may include:
Contributing ideas for Science-related educational content.
Assisting with short educational videos, demonstrations, learning tips or academic posts.
Providing subject knowledge for social media and marketing materials.
Supporting the preparation of educational content that showcases the Academy's programmes and teaching approaches.
Participating in centre events, open houses and promotional activities when required.
This remains primarily a teaching and academic position. Marketing responsibilities are intended to support the Academy's educational content and wider centre activities.
Requirements
Strong subject knowledge in Science, particularly Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology.
Able to confidently teach Secondary-level Science.
Ability to teach at least two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology is highly preferred.
Candidates who can confidently teach all three Science disciplines will be given strong consideration.
Ability to teach Primary Science and Lower Secondary Science is advantageous.
Ability to additionally teach Primary and/or Secondary English is highly preferred.
Candidates who can teach Science together with another academic subject may also be considered.
Strong command of written and spoken English.
Good understanding of the Singapore school curriculum and examination requirements.
Diploma, Bachelor's Degree or other relevant qualification preferred.
Previous teaching, tutoring or education experience is advantageous.
Fresh graduates with strong subject knowledge and teaching ability may also be considered.
Able to explain scientific concepts and problem-solving processes clearly.
Able to guide students in both conceptual and examination-focused Science questions.
Comfortable teaching students with different abilities and learning needs.
Responsible, organised and able to manage lesson preparation and marking independently.
Able to work collaboratively as part of an academic team.
Curriculum writing or educational content-development experience is an advantage.
Comfortable supporting occasional academic marketing and content activities.
Able to work at both our Bishan and Woodlands centres according to the assigned schedule.
Able to commit to a 5.5-day work week.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an educator who is confident in Science and able to make difficult concepts understandable and engaging for students.
The successful candidate should take ownership of students' learning, identify areas where students are struggling and adapt their teaching accordingly.
Beyond classroom teaching, we are looking for someone who is willing to contribute ideas, develop quality academic resources and work together with the wider team to continuously improve Ancourage Academy's Science curriculum.
Candidates who can confidently teach two or more of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, together with English as an additional subject, will be given strong consideration.
Candidates who are able to teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology across multiple Secondary levels, together with English, would be particularly well suited for this position.
