Youth Mentor / Student Support Officer (MOE Schools)

Full-Time Contract | Project-Based School Deployments |Singapore

Make a Difference in a Young Person’s School Journey

Some students need more than academic support. They need atrusted adult who can connect with them, guide them, encourage better choicesand provide structure when things become challenging.

We are looking for Youth Mentors / Student SupportOfficers to work directly with students in MOE schools.

This is a hands-on, school-based role forindividuals who enjoy working with children and teenagers and who can be approachableyet firm — someone who can build rapport with students whilemaintaining clear boundaries, expectations and professional standards.

You may support students who require additional guidance inareas such as:

  • Behaviour and self-management
  • Motivation and school engagement
  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Peer relationships and communication
  • Responsibility and decision-making
  • Managing emotions and conflicts
  • Developing positive habits and personal goals

This is not primarily a desk-based role. Youwill be present on the ground, interacting with students and working alongsideteachers and school personnel throughout the school day.

What You Will Do

Mentor & Engage Students

  • Build positive and appropriate relationships with students.
  • Engage students individually, in small groups and during school activities.
  • Listen, guide, encourage and help students reflect on their behaviour, choices and goals.
  • Support students in developing responsibility, resilience, communication, self-management and positive decision-making skills.
  • Encourage students who may be disengaged or struggling with motivation to participate positively in school.

Support Student Behaviour & School Management

  • Support teachers and school personnel in maintaining a safe, structured and positive school environment.
  • Reinforce school rules, expectations and appropriate standards of behaviour.
  • Supervise students during periods such as arrival, recess, transitions, activities and dismissal.
  • Support the safe and orderly movement of students around the school.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to minor conflicts or challenging behaviour.
  • Help de-escalate situations and escalate more serious concerns to the appropriate school personnel.
  • Support attendance, punctuality and other student-management duties where required.

Observe, Record & Communicate

  • Observe student behaviour and identify concerns that may require further attention.
  • Maintain basic student, session or incident records where required.
  • Communicate relevant observations professionally to teachers, school personnel and programme managers.
  • Work collaboratively with the school and programme team.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, safeguarding standards and professional boundaries at all times.

Who We Are Looking For

You do not need to be a counsellor or social worker to besuitable for this role.

What matters most is your ability to connect withyoung people, earn their respect and remain calm and consistent when situationsbecome challenging.

Graduates or candidates with backgrounds in Psychology,Counselling, Social Work, Social Services, Youth Work, Education or relateddisciplines are also encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Valid MOE Instructor Registration System (MOE IRS) registration is required for deployment.
  • Experience working with children, teenagers, youths or students is preferred.
  • Comfortable working with students approximately 9–17 years old, depending on deployment.
  • Able to communicate clearly and confidently with both students and school personnel.
  • Able to build rapport without becoming overly familiar with students.
  • Calm, firm and respectful when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Patient, mature, responsible and dependable.
  • Able to exercise good judgement and recognise when an issue needs to be escalated.
  • Comfortable following school procedures, safeguarding requirements and organisational guidelines.
  • Experience in mentoring, youth engagement, student management, behaviour support or school programmes will be an advantage.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, on-the-ground position.

Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Walking and moving around the school compound for extended periods.
  • Accompanying students between different areas of the school.
  • Moving quickly when responding to student situations where necessary.
  • Participating actively in student engagement activities and programmes.
  • Working in both indoor and outdoor school environments.
  • Being on their feet and interacting with groups of children and teenagers throughout the school day.

Confident enough to intervene when expectations are not being met.

You should genuinely enjoy working with young people andbelieve that consistent guidance, positive relationships and clear expectationscan make a meaningful difference in a student's development.
