Product Industrial Designer (Open to Interns & Full-Time Applicants)
ORIGIN SLEEP PTE. LTD.
Do you enjoy turning ideas into products that people use every day?
We're looking for a passionate Product Industrial Designer to join our team. Whether you're a student looking for an internship, a fresh graduate with internship experience, or an experienced designer ready for your next challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
In this role, you'll be involved in every stage of the product development journey—from the first sketch and concept to prototypes and final production. Depending on your experience, you'll have the opportunity to learn, contribute, and gradually take ownership of projects as you grow.
Working closely with our R&D, sourcing, and manufacturing teams, you'll help create furniture and home products that are functional, thoughtfully designed, and ready for production. If you're curious, creative, and enjoy bringing ideas to life, this could be the role for you.
What You Will Work On
- Design and develop furniture and home products from concept through to production, with responsibilities that grow alongside your experience.
- Research user needs, market trends, and competitor products to uncover opportunities for innovation.
- Generate creative concepts through sketching, mood boards, brainstorming sessions, and design exploration.
- Produce high-quality design outputs, including sketches, renderings, technical drawings, and presentation materials.
- Build and test prototypes, using feedback to refine and improve your designs.
- Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing teams to ensure products are functional, cost-effective, and production ready.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Select suitable materials, finishes, colours, and hardware while balancing aesthetics, durability, sustainability, and cost.
- Work with suppliers to review prototypes, tooling, production samples, and design improvements.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and production specifications.
- Keep design documentation organised and up to date throughout the product development process.
- Stay informed about emerging design trends, new materials, manufacturing technologies, and consumer insights.
- Continuously improve existing products through testing, customer feedback, and research.
- Support other product development projects and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a related discipline.
- Open to students seeking internships, fresh graduates with relevant internship experience, and candidates with up to 5 years of industry experience.
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates your design thinking and product development process through academic, personal, internship, or professional projects.
- Proficiency in Rhino or similar 3D design software.
- Strong sketching, visual communication, and presentation skills.
- A good understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and product development.
- Experience with prototyping or product development through academic projects, internships, or previous work is an advantage.
