Platform Engineer — Systematic Commodities

Aboutthe role
We are hiring a Platform Engineer tobuild and own the research platform behind a systematic commodities team: thesoftware, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that carry strategies fromdata to research to live trading. The role is roughly 70% software development(applications, trading systems, data engineering) and 30% cloud andinfrastructure. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role reporting directly tothe Portfolio Manager. The platform is currently cloud-based and expected toevolve, including toward hybrid on-premises capacity and intraday systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the research platform: back testing and simulation services, signal and portfolio pipelines, and the tooling researchers use daily
- Develop internal applications end-to-end, including risk, monitoring, and trading systems: services, APIs, and front ends
- Own data engineering end-to-end: model retrievals, exchange feeds, database loads, storage design, and the datasets research depends on
- Build continuous delivery and the path from research code to production, supporting the move from daily to intraday operation
- Own the cloud infrastructure: identity and access, networking, compute, storage, and cost
- Run the production platform: Linux fleet, containers, orchestration runtime, monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Establish resilience and security foundations: disaster recovery, secrets, certificates, endpoint management, access reviews
- Support the evaluation and design of a hybrid extension with on-premises capacity
Requirements
- 5+ years in software or platform engineering, including sole or small-team ownership of production systems
- Strong Python as the primary development language, with software engineering fundamentals: design, testing, and the full development lifecycle from requirements to deployment
- Full-stack development experience: services, APIs, and front ends
- Data engineering in production: pipelines, storage design, and a workflow orchestrator (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, or similar)
- Depth in a major cloud provider, ideally Azure; hybrid or on-premises experience
- Linux administration and production Docker experience
- Practical security engineering and networking fundamentals; experience running on-call for systems with strict deadlines and uptime requirements
- Ability to operate independently, with sound judgement on production change; an entrepreneurial self-starter who identifies and closes gaps unprompted
Preferred qualifications
- Experience at a trading firm or asset manager; exposure to research platforms or back testing infrastructure
- Financial market or futures reference data
- Rust, particularly for performance-critical components
- Infrastructure as code (Pulumi or Terraform)
- macOS fleet management; SIEM experience
