Vessel Tanker Manager

The Tanker Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, cost-effective, and efficient technical management of assigned tanker vessels (Crude, Product, Chemical, or Gas carriers). This role oversees day-to-day operations, maintenance, dry-dockings, statutory compliance, and vetting readiness to minimize operational downtime and maximize asset value.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Management: Monitor vessel technical performance, machinery health, and planned maintenance systems (PMS). Troubleshoot technical issues and manage major repairs or equipment breakdowns.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC, MARPOL, SOLAS, Flag State, and Classification Society rules. Lead accident/incident investigations and root cause analyses.
Vetting & Inspections: Ensure vessel readiness for SIRE 2.0 / CDI inspections, Port State Control (PSC), and oil major vetting audits. Promptly close out all inspection findings and non-conformities.
Dry-Docking & Project Management: Prepare technical specifications, evaluate tenders, and supervise scheduled dry-dockings, retrofits (e.g., BWTS, scrubbers), and major overhaul projects on time and within budget.
Financial Management: Prepare and manage annual operating budgets (OPEX) for assigned vessels. Review and approve technical purchase requisitions and service contracts.
Crew Management & Safety Culture: Work with crew managers to ensure vessel staffing meets matrix requirements. Conduct performance appraisals for Senior Officers (Chief Engineer / Master) and promote onboard safety culture.
Requirements & Qualifications
License & Certification: Chief Engineer (Class 1 Motor) Certificate of Competency (CoC) preferred, or Master Mariner Class 1 with extensive technical exposure.
Sailing Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of sailing experience as Chief Engineer or Chief Officer on oil/chemical/gas tankers.
Onshore Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Vessel Manager or Technical Superintendent handling tanker tonnage with a reputable ship owner or manager.
Industry Knowledge: Deep expertise in SIRE 2.0 guidelines, TMSA requirements, MARPOL Annex I/II/VI, and decarbonization measures (CII/EEXI).
Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally for vessel visits, dry-dockings, and audits.
