MEP Assistant Design Manager

Job Purpose

The Assistant Design Manager is responsible for supporting the Engineering Director in the coordination and management of Mechanical Engineering Design activities, particularly for semiconductor, cleanroom and advanced manufacturing facilities.

The position supports engineering design management and coordination to ensure design deliverables and design-related construction support are completed in accordance with client specifications, recognised engineering standards and project schedules.

The role requires relevant experience in mechanical engineering design, multidisciplinary engineering coordination and technical design support throughout the engineering design and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities

A. Mechanical Engineering Design Management

  1. Support the Engineering Director in managing Mechanical Engineering Design activities for multiple concurrent engineering projects.
  2. Prepare, review and coordinate engineering designs for:
  • HVAC Systems
  • ACMV Systems
  • Cleanroom HVAC Systems
  • Chilled Water Systems
  • Process Cooling Water Systems
  • Process Utility Systems
  • Compressed Dry Air Systems
  • Exhaust & Ventilation Systems
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Mechanical Building Services

3. Review engineering calculations, technical submissions and design documentation.

4. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering designs with Architectural, Structural, Electrical, Process and Instrumentation disciplines.

5. Ensure engineering designs comply with:

  • ASHRAE
  • ISO Standards
  • Singapore Standards (SS)
  • Local Authority Requirements
  • Client Engineering Specifications

6. Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.

7. Support BIM coordination and clash detection using AutoCAD and Revit.

8. Review mechanical equipment selection, sizing and technical specifications.

9. Participate in value engineering and design optimisation exercises.

10. Assist in establishing engineering design quality standards and best practices.

B. Project Management & Coordination

    • Engineering schedules
    • Resource planning
    • Cost monitoring reports

    2. Monitor engineering progress against project schedules.

    3. Assist in design cost monitoring and budget control.

    4. Coordinate technical matters between clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal engineering teams.

    5. Participate in project progress meetings and prepare engineering reports.

    6. Provide design-related technical support during testing, commissioning and project handover.

    7. Provide design-related technical support duringtesting, commissioning and project handover

    C. Construction & Site Engineering Support

    1. Provide design-related engineering support during construction.
    2. Review RFIs, shop drawings and material submissions.
    3. Provide design clarification and technical support for engineering and construction issues.
    4. Coordinate design changes during project execution.
    5. Participate in engineering inspections and site coordination meetings as required.
    6. Ensure engineering works comply with approved drawings and specifications.

    D. Quality, Safety & Compliance

    1. Support implementation of QA/QC procedures.
    2. Ensure engineering deliverables comply with project quality requirements.
    3. Participate in engineering audits and design reviews.

    E. Client & Stakeholder Coordination

    1. Liaise with clients regarding engineering requirements.
    2. Coordinate with engineering consultants and specialist vendors.
    3. Attend technical meetings.
    4. Support tender submissions and engineering proposals.
    5. Maintain professional relationships with project stakeholders.

    Requirements

    1. Preferred Education

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

    3. Professional Experience (Required)

    Candidates should possess at least five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering Design.

    4. Mandatory Requirements

    • Previous employment with an Engineering Design Consultancy, M&E Engineering Consulting Firm, Mechanical Engineering Design Consultant, or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy engaged in engineering design and coordination works.
    • Experience supporting semiconductor, cleanroom, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical or industrial facility projects.
    • Experience in conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction design support and technical coordination.

    • Experience supporting semiconductor wafer fabrication plants.
    • Experience in cleanroom facilities.
    • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.
    • Experience in electronics manufacturing facilities.
    • Experience in data centre projects.
    • Experience in consultancy practice.
    • Experience working with multinational clients.
    • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
