Head Barista (A Premium Tea Brand)

The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced, passionate, and leadership-oriented Head Barista to drive operational and beverage excellence across our retail outlets.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Head Barista serves as the anchor of our tea bar operations. In this role, you will lead beverage R&D, oversee staff training on tea preparation and service standards, ensure strict quality control, and maintain high operational performance across all outlets (ION Orchard, Jewel Changi, IOI Central Boulevard, and upcoming new locations).

Key Responsibilities

Beverage R&D & Menu Innovation

Lead beverage research and development (R&D) to create innovative, high-quality signature tea and coffee beverages that align with brand standards and seasonal promotions.

Tea Training & Staff Development

Drive staff onboarding, tea knowledge education, and practical brewing/service training for all full-time and part-time baristas.

Conduct regular competency checks, role-play assessments, and live floor shadowing to maintain high service standards across all stations.

Tea Bar Operations & Quality Assurance

Establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for beverage preparation, presentation, and workflow efficiency.

Oversee daily station operations, equipment maintenance, and Quality, Safety, Health & Cleanliness (QSHC) compliance across all outlets.

Store & Team Leadership

Work closely with Outlet In-Charges (I/Cs) and Retail Coordinators to ensure seamless daily store operations and shift coverage.

Lead by example on the floor, delivering exceptional customer engagement, answering complex customer queries, and promoting specialty tea products.

Inventory & Supplier Coordination

Monitor stock levels for beverage ingredients, teas, milk, and operational supplies; coordinate with internal inventory teams to prevent stockouts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Senior Barista, Lead Barista, or Supervisor in a specialty coffee/tea establishment, high-volume café, or premium F&B retail environment.

  • Passion for Tea: Strong appreciation and knowledge of tea (loose leaf, specialty blends, brewing techniques, latte art).

  • Leadership & Coaching: Proven ability to train, mentor, and motivate baristas to achieve operational excellence.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Adaptability: Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple outlets and tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Shift Flexibility: Ability to work 44 hours per week on rotational shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
