Geologist

To investigate Earth materials, structure, and physical history to help extract natural resources, ensure safe construction, or protect the environment. They split their time between field sites, laboratories, and offices.

Field Work: Collect rock, soil, groundwater, and fossil samples. Conduct site surveys and monitor drilling operations.

Data Analysis: Test earth materials in a lab and analyze geological or geographical data using specialized mapping software.

Mapping: Create visual models, cross-sections, and charts of rock strata and subsurface formations.

Reporting: Write technical reports and risk assessments for clients, government regulators, and engineering teams.

Consultation: Advise on natural hazards (like landslides or earthquakes), resource exploitation (minerals, oil, or gas), and environmental remediation.
