Senior Software Developer @ OneNorth (1 year agency contract)

About the Role

Our team builds and operates a scientific data governance and discovery platform used by research and corporate staff across a large organisation. The platform supports dataset cataloguing, ownership and stewardship management, access governance, and data product curation. It is an established production system with users across the organisation and formal availability expectations.

We are seeking an experienced software developer to deliver defined feature workstreams end to end. You will work within an established architecture and engineering standards, taking assigned features from written specification through to production-quality delivery — including the data model, the services, the supporting infrastructure, the tests, and the documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement backend feature modules against written specifications and acceptance criteria
• Design and build REST API endpoints, including validation, authorisation, and error handling
• Implement data model changes and write database migrations for deployment against live systems
• Author and maintain infrastructure-as-code for the components you build
• Write unit and integration tests as part of feature delivery
• Participate in code review, both as author and reviewer
• Produce technical documentation and operational runbooks for delivered components
• Contribute frontend work where required to complete an assigned feature
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance and code review feedback to junior developers on the team

Essential Requirements

• Minimum five years building and maintaining production software — applications and services with real users and regular release cycles

• Strong Python, with production experience building applications using a web framework
• Demonstrated experience designing and building REST APIs, including authentication, authorisation and error handling
• Has written and deployed database schema migrations against live production systems
• Has authored infrastructure-as-code from scratch (any major tool — AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent)
• Hands-on commercial cloud experience; AWS preferred
• Writes automated tests routinely as part of delivery
• Experience working within a branching and pull request workflow, including reviewing others' code
• Experience building or maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling as part of a normal workflow
• Clear written technical English — documentation is a deliverable on this engagement

Desirable

• Exposure to data cataloguing, metadata management or data governance tooling
• Workflow orchestration experience
• Frontend development with a modern JavaScript framework
• Prior delivery experience within a Singapore government or statutory board environment
• Relevant cloud certification

Working Environment

• All work is performed on-site in Singapore. Remote and offshore arrangements are not available
• The team is small, code review is close, and the standard for completed work is high — tested, documented and operable rather than functionally complete
