About the Role
We are looking for a Process Engineer to join our Singapore team. You will design process and utility systems for advanced manufacturing facilities, working with multidisciplinary design teams, equipment suppliers and client end users. The work runs from concept and detailed design through to site support and process optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Utilities Design
- Develop process and utility designs from concept through basic and detailed design stages
- Prepare and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and heat and mass balances
- Carry out equipment sizing and selection calculations for vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, filters and other process equipment
- Design clean and black utility systems such as purified water, WFI, clean steam, compressed air, nitrogen, HVAC process interfaces, chilled water and cooling water
- Prepare process descriptions, design basis documents, equipment lists, line lists and data sheets
- Write equipment and package specifications, and evaluate technical bids from suppliers
Multidisciplinary & Supplier Coordination
- Coordinate process requirements with mechanical, piping, electrical, automation, architectural and civil/structural teams so the design is consistent across disciplines
- Give process input to layouts, 3D model reviews and piping design
- Work with equipment suppliers and vendors to review drawings, documents and technical submittals
- Take part in design reviews and resolve technical issues and interfaces between disciplines
Client Interface
- Work directly with client design teams and end users to gather process requirements, user requirement specifications (URS) and operating philosophies
- Present design options and recommendations to clients, and incorporate their feedback into the design
- Attend client meetings and workshops, and keep clear communication and records of decisions
Process Safety & Compliance
- Apply process safety engineering principles throughout the design lifecycle
- Take part in and support process safety studies such as HAZOP, HAZID and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
- Support process safety management activities, including relief sizing, hazardous area classification input and safety-critical design reviews
- Make sure designs comply with relevant codes, standards and Singapore WSH regulations
- Support GMP and regulatory requirements in pharmaceutical and other regulated facilities
Site Support & Process Optimisation
- Support construction, installation, commissioning and qualification activities on site
- Respond to technical queries from site and resolve process-related design issues during construction
- Review and support commissioning and qualification documentation (IQ/OQ) where required
- Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency, yield, safety, energy use and sustainability
- Support troubleshooting and debottlenecking of existing facilities
Project Delivery
- Deliver the agreed process design scope within budgeted hours and schedule
- Track progress against deliverables, and flag scope changes or risks to the Project Engineer or Lead Process Engineer early
- Make sure deliverables meet PM Group’s quality procedures and document control requirements
- Support estimating and proposal activities by providing process scope, man-hour estimates and technical input for bids
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical, Process or Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5 - 8 years of process design experience, ideally in an engineering consultancy or a manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to prepare PFDs, P&IDs and equipment sizing calculations
- Awareness of process safety engineering and process safety management
- Good knowledge of Singapore Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) legislation and relevant codes
- Self-motivated and self-driven, able to manage your own scope of work
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
Good to Have
- Experience in API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) design or operation
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biopharma or other regulated (GMP) facilities
