Teach, create useful curriculum and help improve learning programmes

At Ancourage Academy, we are looking for educators who enjoy explaining ideas clearly and turning classroom observations into better teaching resources.

You will teach small classes of up to six students and contribute to the development of curriculum, assessments and learning programmes. This role offers opportunities to strengthen your teaching, learn practical uses of advanced AI and develop skills in project planning, digital workflows, communication and programme delivery.

We welcome both strong subject specialists and teachers with broader coverage. Your teaching scope and development responsibilities will be matched to your capabilities and the academy’s needs.

Teaching scope

Relevant subjects may include:

  • English.

  • Mathematics.

  • Science.

  • Chinese.

  • Humanities.

  • General Paper.

Assignments may cover Primary, Secondary, JC or relevant IP/IB courses, according to your demonstrated expertise.

A strong specialisation in one subject and level is sufficient to apply. The ability to teach additional subjects or curricula is valuable where supported by appropriate knowledge and experience.

What you will do

  • Plan and conduct regular, trial and replacement lessons within your agreed scope.

  • Explain concepts clearly and adapt lessons to students’ understanding and learning needs.

  • Identify misconceptions and provide targeted practice and actionable feedback.

  • Develop lesson sequences, worksheets, assessments, question banks and answer guides.

  • Review resources for accuracy, clarity, appropriate difficulty and syllabus alignment.

  • Use classroom observations and student responses to identify improvements to materials.

  • Maintain useful progress records and communicate learning goals and next steps to parents.

  • Collaborate with colleagues on shared resources and teaching approaches.

  • Contribute to defined programme-development projects, such as a new learning sequence, workshop or resource series.

  • Help organise review stages, gather feedback and document improvements within an agreed project.

  • Participate in professional development and share useful learning with the team.

Your core responsibilities are teaching and learning development. Wider project responsibilities will be agreed according to your strengths, readiness and workload.

Work with advanced AI and improve digital workflows

You will receive company-funded access to selected advanced AI tools, including frontier models approved for the academy’s work, with practical training in using and evaluating them.

Applications may include:

  • Developing initial lesson structures and resource ideas.

  • Exploring alternative explanations and differentiated practice.

  • Preparing presentations, visual materials and workshop content.

  • Organising research and comparing possible approaches to a learning problem.

  • Analysing patterns in assessment information.

  • Improving resource organisation and recurring workflows.

  • Prototyping simple digital learning resources where useful.

You will learn effective prompting, output comparison, accuracy checking and practical judgement about when to use different tools. Teachers remain responsible for subject accuracy, syllabus relevance, age suitability and the appropriate handling of student information.

Prior AI or coding experience is helpful but is not required. We value curiosity, careful evaluation and the willingness to learn through practical work.

Develop skills beyond classroom teaching

This role provides scope to develop capabilities across curriculum, project work and education programme delivery.

Possible development areas include:

  • Project planning: defining a useful outcome, organising tasks and managing review stages.

  • Data and spreadsheets: organising information, identifying patterns and presenting findings clearly.

  • Digital content: creating presentations, learning materials and clear visual explanations.

  • Communication: presenting ideas, facilitating discussions and explaining programmes to different audiences.

  • Workflow improvement: identifying repetitive tasks and testing practical ways to make them more reliable.

  • People development: sharing knowledge, reviewing resources and giving constructive feedback.

  • Education business exposure: understanding how learning programmes are planned, delivered, reviewed and improved.

An agreed project might involve coordinating a curriculum launch, improving a progress-tracking process or developing a workshop from initial concept through resource preparation and review.

Development projects will be selected with your interests and readiness in mind. Assigned training and project work will form part of your working hours.

Long-term career development

You will receive onboarding to teaching approaches, curriculum standards and working tools, alongside opportunities for feedback and collaboration.

Potential career directions include:

  • Senior Teacher: deepen your classroom expertise and contribute to stronger teaching practices.

  • Subject Lead: take greater responsibility for teaching standards and resource quality in your area.

  • Curriculum Lead: coordinate learning sequences, assessments and resource development.

  • Learning Programme or Digital Project Lead: oversee an agreed programme or technology-supported initiative.

  • Team or Centre Leadership: develop responsibilities in people support, planning and programme delivery where suitable opportunities arise.

Progression will depend on teaching quality, professional capability, project contribution and available responsibilities. The role can support a career built around subject expertise, curriculum development or wider leadership.

What we are looking for

  • Strong subject knowledge in at least one relevant teaching area and level.

  • The ability to explain ideas clearly and respond constructively to students’ difficulties.

  • An interest in turning teaching experience into better curriculum and resources.

  • Reliable preparation, organisation and follow-through.

  • Careful judgement when reviewing information and evaluating digital outputs.

  • Professional communication with students, parents and colleagues.

  • A collaborative approach to shared work and feedback.

  • Willingness to learn new tools and contribute to clearly defined development projects.

  • An interest in building a long-term career with the academy.

Relevant teaching and curriculum experience is welcome. We also consider strong newer educators and career changers who can demonstrate subject competence, communication skills and the ability to learn.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong teaching capability across multiple year levels and/or more than one relevant subject. The ability to develop curriculum for different subjects or levels is an added advantage. Strong subject specialists are also welcome, with teaching and programme-development responsibilities matched to demonstrated expertise.
