Job Overview

The Barber is responsible for providing professional barbering and grooming services to clients, including haircuts, beard trimming, shaving, styling, and other men's grooming services while maintaining high standards of quality, hygiene, customer service, and client satisfaction.

The role involves consulting with clients to understand their preferred hairstyle and grooming requirements, providing professional recommendations, performing barbering services using appropriate techniques and equipment, maintaining a clean and hygienic workstation, and building strong relationships with clients to encourage repeat visits.

Key Responsibilities

Hair Cutting & Styling

• Provide professional haircuts, trims, fades, tapers, crew cuts, buzz cuts, and other men's hairstyles according to client requirements.

• Perform precision cutting using scissors, clippers, trimmers, and other professional barbering tools.

• Perform skin fades, low fades, mid fades, high fades, taper fades, and other modern barbering techniques.

• Style and finish hair according to the client's preferred look and occasion.

• Recommend suitable hairstyles based on the client's face shape, hair type, lifestyle, and preferences.

• Ensure accurate blending, shaping, and finishing of hairstyles.

• Maintain consistency and quality in all barbering services provided.

• Stay updated with current men's hairstyles, grooming trends, and barbering techniques.

Beard & Shaving Services

• Provide professional beard trimming, shaping, styling, and maintenance services.

• Perform moustache trimming and shaping according to client preferences.

• Provide traditional and modern shaving services where required.

• Perform hot towel shaves and other approved grooming services where offered by the salon.

• Create and maintain clean beard lines, necklines, and facial contours.

• Recommend suitable beard styles based on the client's facial structure and hair growth pattern.

• Provide professional advice on beard care and maintenance.

Client Consultation & Customer Service

• Consult with clients before providing services to understand their desired hairstyle and grooming requirements.

• Assess the client's hair, beard, and facial features and recommend suitable styles where appropriate.

• Explain the service and expected result clearly before starting the treatment.

• Provide professional advice on hair and beard maintenance.

• Maintain a friendly, professional, and welcoming approach with all clients.

• Ensure clients are comfortable throughout the service.

• Handle client requests, concerns, and service-related issues professionally.

• Build strong relationships with clients and encourage repeat appointments and regular visits.

Hair & Beard Grooming

• Perform detailed neckline, sideburn, and hairline shaping.

• Maintain clean and precise beard and moustache outlines.

• Provide appropriate styling and finishing using professional grooming products.

• Recommend suitable hair and beard-care products based on client requirements.

• Provide aftercare and maintenance instructions following grooming services.

• Ensure the final hairstyle and grooming service meets the client's expectations.

Salon Hygiene & Safety

• Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, workstation cleanliness, and workplace safety.

• Clean and sanitize scissors, clippers, trimmers, razors, combs, brushes, and other barbering tools after use.

• Follow proper hygiene and sterilization procedures for reusable tools and equipment.

• Use disposable blades and other single-use items appropriately.

• Ensure towels, capes, gowns, and other grooming materials are properly cleaned and maintained.

• Follow appropriate safety procedures when using razors, electrical equipment, and grooming products.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workstation at all times.

• Immediately report any hygiene, safety, equipment, or product-related concerns to management.

Products & Equipment

• Use professional barbering tools, equipment, grooming products, and styling products correctly and safely.

• Maintain clippers, trimmers, scissors, razors, and other barbering equipment in good working condition.

• Clean, disinfect, lubricate, and maintain equipment according to salon procedures.

• Monitor the availability of grooming products and inform management when supplies need replenishment.

• Use products efficiently to minimize unnecessary wastage and control costs.

• Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly.

Sales & Client Retention

• Recommend suitable hair-care, beard-care, styling, and grooming products based on client needs.

• Explain the benefits and appropriate usage of recommended grooming products.

• Promote suitable additional grooming services offered by the salon.

• Support the salon in achieving service, product sales, and customer-retention targets.

• Maintain professional knowledge of salon products, services, and promotions.

• Encourage repeat appointments and maintain long-term client relationships.

Teamwork & Salon Operations

• Work closely with other barbers, hair stylists, beauticians, reception staff, and salon management.

• Coordinate with team members to ensure smooth daily salon operations.

• Assist colleagues during busy periods and high customer volumes when required.

• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.

• Maintain professional conduct, appearance, punctuality, and workplace discipline.

• Support the salon team in maintaining high service, hygiene, and customer-care standards.

• Assist with opening, closing, and general salon operational activities when required.

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of client services and grooming preferences where required.

• Record and communicate any relevant client preferences, sensitivities, or service concerns.

• Monitor product usage and report stock requirements to management.

• Provide feedback to management regarding client preferences, service quality, and operational issues.

• Follow salon procedures relating to appointments, service records, payments, and customer management.

• Assist management in identifying opportunities to improve service quality and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Barber, Men's Grooming Specialist, or similar role.

• Previous experience in a professional barbershop, salon, hotel, spa, or men's grooming environment preferred.

• Strong knowledge of men's hair cutting, fading, tapering, styling, and grooming techniques.

• Practical experience with scissors, clippers, trimmers, razors, and other professional barbering tools.

• Experience in beard trimming, shaping, moustache grooming, and shaving services.

• Knowledge of modern men's hairstyles, fades, beard styles, and grooming trends.

• Strong customer-service and client-consultation skills.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

• Good knowledge of barbering hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

• Ability to work effectively in a busy barbershop or salon environment.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required.

• Relevant barbering, hairdressing, cosmetology, or professional grooming qualification preferred.
