Job Summary

SMMIS seeks a Learning Support Assistant phonics specialist to support SEN students and assist classroom teachers in enhancing learning and development for students with additional needs.

Responsibilities

• Support students on the SEN register or with additional needs by delivering targeted phonics instruction to improve their reading and writing skills
• Implement phonics programmes effectively to enhance students’ literacy development
• Manage student behaviour proactively to maintain a positive and productive learning environment
• Assist classroom teachers by providing learning support that meets the developmental and educational needs of students
• Communicate clearly in written and spoken English to support student learning and collaborate with team members
• Collaborate effectively with teaching staff and support teams to foster a cohesive learning environment
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive attitude when working with students to encourage engagement and progress

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Relevant qualifications in early childhood education, special needs, or related fields
• At least 2 years of experience working with children with special needs or in a similar role
• Experience supporting students in developing phonics skills and using phonics programmes
