Project Engineer – Sheet Metal Workshop

C & W ELECTRONICS PTE LTD

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

• Lead and manage multiple sheet metal fabrication projects simultaneously from kickoff through delivery.

• Develop and maintain project timelines, work plans, and milestone tracking using Gantt charts or equivalent tools.

• Coordinate with sales, engineering, procurement, production, and dispatch teams to ensure seamless workflow.

• Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to prevent schedule and cost overruns.

Engineering & Design

• Review and interpret customer drawings, specifications, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) for manufacturability.

• Collaborate with CAD/CAM teams to develop shop drawings, nesting layouts, and fabrication plans.

• Apply DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles specific to sheet metal processes — cutting, bending, welding, punching, and forming.

• Evaluate material grades (MS, SS, GI, aluminium) and recommend alternatives where applicable.

Production Coordination

• Issue job cards, work orders, and routing sheets to the shop floor and monitor execution.

• Coordinate machine scheduling across laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake, MIG/TIG welding, and powder coating.

• Resolve production bottlenecks and provide real-time technical guidance to operators and supervisors.

• Track material consumption and flag shortages or wastage to procurement and management.

Customer & Vendor Interface

• Participate in customer technical meetings, clarify specifications, and communicate design or production limitations proactively.

• Prepare project status reports, delivery schedules, and progress updates for internal and client stakeholders.

• Evaluate and qualify sub-contractors and outsourced processes (plating, painting, heat treatment) as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting GD&T drawings, assembly drawings, and sheet metal flat patterns.

• Working knowledge of sheet metal processes: laser cutting, plasma, press brake, roll forming, laser welding, spot welding, MIG/TIG welding.

• Familiarity with Trumpf machine & software is a plus.

• Hands-on experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar); CAM/nesting tools are a plus.

• Strong understanding of material properties — mild steel, stainless steel, galvanized iron, aluminium alloys.

• Familiarity with powder coating, electroplating, anodizing, and other surface treatment processes is a plus.

• Ability to work with ERP/MRP systems for job tracking, inventory, and production planning.

• Excellent problem-solving, prioritization, and multi-project management skills.

• Effective communication skills to coordinate across technical and non-technical teams.
